Luke Skywalker 1:4 Scale Figure

Clone Trooper Unleashed

"Identical soldiers produced in a world of clinical efficiency, Clone Troopers are created for only one purpose - battle. Every fiber of their being, every thought in their minds, every muscle in their bodies is infused with the capability and desire to be warriors. Through genetic engineering and military training, Clone Troopers are molded to be the ideal soldiers. And, indeed, the source of their genetic material comes from an extremely skilled fighter, the legendary bounty hunter Jango Fett. The clones experience accelerated growth and relentless training to shape them into superior soldiers totally subservient to authority. Devoid of individuality, identity and independence, Clone Troopers fight with complete and unquestioning dedication. They pour onto the battlefield, relentless warriors who do not falter but instead keep marching forward, without pause or pity for their fallen comrades. In a desperate hour, the Clone Troopers are called to perform the job for which they have been created, when war erupts in the galaxy." --Excerpt from the package back

The Clone Trooper has been one of the most popular figures in the Unleashed line, and the latest shipments all seem to be the variant captain version with the red markings denoting the rank. Besides toy stores, you can find this whole wave (Hoth Pilot Luke, Chewbacca, Clone Trooper) at Best Buy stores packed in special bundles of the Star Wars Battlefront videogame.

Sculpt—5/5
Stunning. This is perhaps the most impressive Unleashed figure made. The Clone Trooper is as perfect as a $15 figure can be. Perfect proportions, crisply detailed armor, and the best Unleashed base yet. The pose of the Clone Trooper is excellent as he charges over his fallen comrade into battle. The details on his armor are impeccable, from the small lines on the ridge of his helmet fin to the grips on the bottom of his boots, this sculpt will please the most finicky of detail Nazis. The Trooper's black body suit is ribbed and has all the little wrinkles that give it the appearance of cloth or a flexible material. The blaster rifle, which is molded separately and can be removed from the Trooper's grip, is likewise well-sculpted and fits well in the Trooper's hands.

The base this figure stands on is just as impressive. The dead Clone Trooper has all the great detailing of the main Trooper, and also has tons of damage detail added. There are dents and cracks in his armor, cracks in his visor, and tears in his body glove. Even the underside of him is sculpted to perfection! The rocky parts of the base look good as well, but obviously, the dead Clone Trooper steals the show. Two Clone Troopers in one set makes this an awesome display.

Articulation--NA/5
These are essentially statues, so there is no articulation present.

Accessories--5/5
The removable blaster rifle is done well and is made of decently rigid plastic. It won't sag over time but it can be deformed by say, a bad packing job.

Paint--4/5
The only category of the figure that isn't quite perfect is the paint job. Overall it is very good. There's a nice spray that mimics the dusty terrain of Geonosis and everything seems to be painted the correct colors. Unfortunately the black paint for the body gloves isn't very clean and doesn't always cover everything it should. There are also some fuzzy edges of the red accents on the Clone Trooper captain. Also, the soles of the boots should be grey but on the dead Trooper they are not painted at all (besides the dusty overspray). The crack on the dead Trooper's visor is painted white, but I would have preferred it if it were a bit more subtle. As is, these cracks stand out too much and look unrealistic; at first glance, I thought the cracks were a sticker! Overall though, the set looks great and these quibbles are minor.

Packaging--4/5
The packaging looks good and is nice and eye-catching. The character-specific artwork on the card helps make each package unique-looking. The bubble is the thing that unifies the series together with all figures sharing the same Unleashed logo insert and a similar font for each figure's name. On the card back, a pretty lengthy description of the character will help anyone unfamiliar with them. Unfortunately, the graphic design of the cardbacks are a bit disappointing to me, mostly because they remind me of the 2002 Saga card backs...couldn't they think of something new for the Unleashed figures? One final negative to the packaging is that they don't hold up too well to shelf wear; it will be hard to find a card that doesn't have at least a few creases in it--even straight out of the case.

Overall--5/5
Despite some minor paint issues, I cannot recommend this figure enough! This is easily one of the best Unleashed figures made yet. Phenomenal pose, phenomenal sculpt, phenomenal base--every Star Wars fan should own this figure! It simply looks awesome displayed on my shelf and it will look great on yours. Luckily I've been seeing more of this figure so hopefully you won't have trouble finding it either.
