This is a promotional figure that is free with $19.99 in purchases from Toys R Us (in the US). It can also be bought seperately from toysrus.com if they have it in stock. This is the second silver figure Hasbro has made. The first was Darth Vader who was sold exclusively at Toy Fair. Read on for the review and 4 photos!

R2-D2

Star Wars Silver Anniversary

"25 years ago, the world was first introduced to the wonders of the Star Wars universe. George Lucas' fantasy not only revolutionized the film industry, but also changed forever the way kids dream and play. From the saga's very beginning, Kenner/Hasbro and Lucasfilm have teamed to recreate the fun and excitement of the Star Wars movies through action figures, vehicles, and play sets designed for kids of all ages.

"A quarter of a century later, Star Wars remains as popular and relevant as ever. The saga continues with its latest adventure Episode II: Attack of the Clones. For this latest episode, Hasbro has created its most detailed, authentic, and (most importantly) fun Star Wars toys yet to thrill a whole new generation of fans." --Excerpt from the package back

Sculpt--3/5
This is basically a vac-metalized Naboo Escape Artoo Detoo. Hasbro probably chose this R2 figure because it has less parts to metalize. The sculpt itself isn't bad and everything is pretty accurate for the most part. The only thing wrong is that Hasbro put the legs on backward! This wouldn't be as much of a problem if this figure had articulated ankles, but unfortunately that's not the case. Since the ankles are permanently bent slightly, Artoo's legs will be angled forward slightly instead of slightly back.

Articulation--2/5
Artoo has three points of articulation: head and legs. Ankle articulation would have helped a lot.

Features--2/5
Besides Artoo's metalized body, he sports rolling wheels on the bottom of his feet.

Accessories--NA/5
There are no accessories included with Artoo.

Paint--2/5
Artoo's blue accents make up most of the paint job, so it's a bit of a shame that it's not as good as it could be. The blue paint doesn't quite cover all that it should and the edges aren't very defined. This is probably because the paint wasn't made for metalized plastic.

Packaging--3.5/5
The packaging is almost exactly like the 25th Anniversary Darth Vader. The cardback has a retro look to it with its simple black and silver bordered design. Because of its unique look, you may want to keep it in the packaging. The bubble is rounded and has a raised indentation for the sticker label. The bubble seems to be thinner than usual and while mine is in pretty good shape, it still has some crinkles at the top.

Overall--3/5
I wanted this figure mostly because I wanted to add it to my astromech collection. Well, after seeing it with its backward legs, I decided it's best left in the package. It's not the greatest figure in the world, but it is pretty spiffy to see Artoo all metalized and shiny. You also have to remember that these were meant to be free, so don't expect the highest production values. Hasbro has also stated that whoever wants one will get one, so don't get one because you think it will send your kids to college--get one because you're a Star Wars fan.
