| Sculpt--3/5 First things first--these 25th Anniversary 2-packs are for collectors. These things are meant to be put on a shelf and looked at. The poses these figures are set in are so scene specific that it feels a bit silly to call them "action" figures. But I digress.. Luke is nicely sculpted. He's got some nice detail and his tunic never looked more accurate. Luke's headsculpt still doesn't really look like Mark Hamill, but I definitely like it better than any POTF2 Luke. He's pretty much stuck in the pose you see him in. His left hand is permanently closed, grasping the rope while his right is primarily for taking up the slack of the rope, but is also used to go around Leia's waist. Leia's sculpt is nice. I like it, and would like to see a POTJ version of ANH Leia in a more normal pose. The headsculpt is decent as well but is unfortunately marred by a terrible paint job. Articulation--1/5 Articulation on these figures is practically a moot point. There's really not much use for the articulation Hasbro has given them. Luke and Leia have six points each: neck, shoulders, waist, and hips. Leia's right arm is posed specifically for holding onto Luke, and when Leia is holding onto Luke, Luke's right arm is forced into it's default position. The hip articulation doesn't do much, especially since there are pegs for every foot on the platform included. Thus, the articulation is only good to making slight adjustments to the pose provided. Accessories--2/5 Leia has a standard Imperial blaster rifle, and Luke has his grappling hook. You should know what to expect from the rifle; unfortunately, Leia's grip isn't too tight so you might want to save those clear rubberbands. Luke's grappling hook is pretty big. Now, I could have sworn that this thing came out of the Stormtrooper belt in the movies, but this grappling hook is huge, looking more like it came from a construction site rather than a Stormtrooper utility belt. Paint--2/5 I'm giving this set such a low score because I feel that a set such as this should have some pretty good paint apps, being a 25th anniversary set and all. The paint on Luke is pretty good, but the paint on Leia is deplorable. The brown paint of her hair goes past her hairline and onto her face. Her lipstick is a bright red. And last but not least, the white "glare" in her eye is too big, making her eyes look more white than brown. Pretty sad considering there's not much to paint on this figure. One thing to note about Luke is that this is the first Luke with this color tunic. It's not white, but more of an off-white/beige-ish color. I like it; it looks a lot more accurate than the plain white other Luke figures have. Packaging--4/5 I'm putting this category in since the packages for these sets are so unique (I'd do it for 300th Fett if I still had the package). These packages are surprisingly collector-friendly, allowing you to open up the package without destroying it. You can open these puppies up and close em when you're done and you wouldn't be able to tell it was ever opened (which is good because I'm thinking of returning this one hehe). The packaging is also very nice in the way it displays the figures. You get an unobstructed view of the front and sides and a pretty nifty backdrop. These figures will look good if you're a MIB collector or if you're an opener, and you'd get about the same amount of enjoyment out of em either way. Overall--2.5/5 At first I was really happy I had found this set, but after taking it home and really looking at it and trying to play with them, I feel that I've wasted my money. Don't get me wrong, this is a nice set to display on your shelf, but I like figures that can be put in more situations. In conclusion, these are nice sculptures, but terrible action figures. |
