| Sculpt--4/5 This is, I believe, the sixth Tusken Raider figure since the beginning of the Power of the Force 2 line, but that is in no way a bad thing. Whereas the other Tusken Raider figures had more neutral poses, this figure makes a nice departure from the rest and sports a more action-oriented pose. His arms are best suited for holding the included gaffi stick with both hands, and he looks really cool doing it! You can make him look like he's attacking, blocking, parrying, or just holding his gaffi stick above his head in triumph! He also looks pretty good holding the gaffi stick with one hand if you want him to look like he's going to take a swing. The detail in the sculpt is also very good, with nice texture work in the robes and realistic wrinkles. Articulation--4/5 The Tusken Raider has eight points: neck, shoulders, elbow-cuts, wrist-cuts, and waist. There is no hip articulation and it really isn't needed since his robes would prohibit their movement. The arm articulation is where this figure shines, and with three points per arm, you can make quite a few different poses. Features--5/5 No button activated features here! Just the only feature you could want with a Tusken Raider figure from AOTC: a removable head! Like Final Battle Jango Fett, the Tusken Raider's head is held in place with a strong magnet. The somewhat gruesome feature is not mentioned anywhere on the packaging, and is only implied by an image on the cardback showing Anakin holding his lightsaber to the Tusken Raider's neck. Accessories--5/5 The Saga line has started the great trend of including some great accessories with its figures, and the Tusken Raider is no exception. You get the Tusken Raider's weapon of choice, the gaffi stick, and a very nice little fire pit base. The gaffi stick is the same type that comes with the Tusken Female and Tatooine Attack Anakin Skywalker. The fire pit base is nicely sculpted, with detailed rocks and a great looking fire pit. The base is actually molded in a transparent yellow plastic in order to make a pretty convincing glowing fire effect, which I think is a neat little detail. The base has two foot pegs on it, so you can display the Tusken Raider (or any other figure) on it. The base also has the ability to connect to other display bases; here's hoping they make more Tatooine-themed bases and figures to go with them. Paint--4/5 The paint is good overall. I think I'm most impressed with the fire pit molded in the base; transparent red paint, along with the transparent yellow plastic make a great looking fire effect, especially when light shines on it (or through it). While not really a paint issue, I must also mention the color of this Tusken Raider's outer robe. It is a more orange-ish brown color as opposed to the duller, gray-ish brown of the other Tusken Raider figures. This difference makes this figure stand out a bit from his fellow sand-peoples...whether this is good or bad, I haven't decided. Overall--4.5/5 This is just a great figure, plain and simple. He just looks great on display thanks to his great poses and the included display base, and his action feature is movie-accurate and does not get in the way of the sculpting or articulation. A fun toy for collectors and kids alike! |
