Saga 2003 #04 Padme Amidala (Droid Factory Chase) Review

The factory chase seen in Attack of the Clones was a decent bit of action, and Hasbro brings us an improved Padme figure based on it. Read on for the review and 9 photos!

Padme Amidala

Droid Factory Chase

"The beautiful Padme Amidala is a member of the Galactic Senate who strives for a peaceful resolution to the civil strife plaguing the Republic. After narrowly escaping two assassination attempts linked to the expanding Separatist movement, Padme seeks retreat under the protection of Jedi apprentice Anakin Skywalker. Soon, the heroic pair are lured to the heart of the Separatist stronghold, where cataclysmic events propel them into the midst of a deadly battle and the explosive onslaught of war." --Excerpt from the package back

Sculpt--4/5
For the most part, this Padme figure looks great. Thankfully, Hasbro has chosen to sculpt her body with realistic proportions unlike Arena Escape Padme. Padme's white outfit may seem pretty plain at first glance, but upon closer inspection, you will find that it is full of details. Certain parts of her outfit have a subtle texture which contrasts nicely with the parts that lack texture. The collar is ribbed and the outfit has just the right amount of wrinkles to make it look realistic. I must also mention Padme's molded cape which looks great. It has an excellent texture and the way it is caught in the air accentuates the running poses this figure is capable of.

So what's wrong with this figure? Mostly it's the headsculpt. Yes, this is another attempt at a screaming headsculpt. It's not as bad as some Anakin headsculpts, but it sure doesn't look right. I'm not really sure what expression they were trying to capture, but whatever it is it sure isn't working. Some people may also take issue with Padme's twisting torso. This works well for running poses, but looks strange when you square up her shoulders with her hips. Overall this figure still looks great, but is more limited because of these negative points.

Articulation--5/5
Padme has 12 points of articulation: neck, shoulders, bicep-cuts on both arms, waist, hips, bending knees, and swivel points at the boot-tops. An excellent set of points which allows for many different poses. You can pose her in some pretty neutral poses, but her screaming headsculpt and twisting waist kind of mess them up.

Features--NA/5
There are no features associated with this figure.

Accessories--5/5
Padme comes with her blaster pistol, base, and removable cape. While she didn't really use her blaster in the movie, she did have it holstered, so including one was a good idea. The base is great for displaying this figure and also can attach to the base that came with Deluxe C-3PO, the Super Battle Droid Builder, and the Arena Playset. The cape looks great as mentioned earlier, and can be put on and taken off easily. It also fits extremely well around her neck so you don't have to worry about it falling off or sagging.

Paint--4/5
Excellent job all around. The face of my figure is well done with clean lines on the eyes and eyebrows. The base is also well done with some spray ops on the sides which keeps it from looking too plain.

Overall--4/5
I like this figure. I've wanted it ever since I first saw the prototype and wasn't overly disappointed with the final version. The headsculpt keeps this figure from reaching its full potential but it is still a great figure for play or display.
