Star Wars figures have come a long way since the original figures from the seventies. Heck, they've come a long way since 1995! But every once in a while, along comes a figure that makes you scratch your head and wonder how it has come to this. Obi-Wan Kenobi Acklay Battle is one of those figures... Read on for the review and 7 photos!
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Acklay Battle
"Free of the binders that bound him to a column in the Geonosian arena, Obi-Wan Kenobi defends himself against the ferocious beasts that have been let loose in the arena to attack him, Anakin and Padme for the entertainment of the crowd." --Excerpt from the package back
| Sculpt--3.5/5 In terms of sculpting, this figure is not bad. The headsculpt is decent; it doesn't look exactly like Ewan but it's passable. There are nice details in his outfit like some realistic looking folds in his sleeves, and his pose is appropriate for battling an Acklay. His left hand is open and is posed as if using the Force or something. He's got a huge magnet in this hand which kind of mucks up the look of it. This figure is pretty much only good for battling the Acklay; this figure is so preposed that varying his pose makes him look like a jackass... Articulation--1/5 Obi-Wan has five points: neck, hinged right shoulder, cut left shoulder, and hips. Turning his head to his right makes look up and it looks unnatural to say the least. His hinged right shoulder is best used for the built-in action feature. His left shoulder joint is good for almost nothing--you can make him look like he's fencing...or something. The hip joints are pretty worthless; good only for making slight adjustments to his stance. Waist articulation has been disabled thanks once again to the built in action feature. Wrist joints would have been nice as well or even a bicep cut would have been appreciated. Features--1/5 This figure has perhaps the funniest action feature (to me at least). Press a button on his belt and his right arm moves slightly forward. With shaft--I mean spear in hand, Obi-Wan makes a stabbing motion. The spear has a metal rear end which is held by a magnet in Obi's left hand, leaving the spear free to slide forward and backward. The action doesn't work too well and it looks more like he's polishing the spear rather than jabbing with it. Use the action feature without spear in hand and, well, he'll still look like he's polishing his spear. Obi-Wan also features a magnet in his left palm to attract his metal lightsaber hilt. Accessories--3/5 You get a decent set of accessories here, unfortunately their usefulness is questionable. Included with Obi-Wan is a spear, lightsaber with metal hilt and removable blade, handcuffs, and Geonosian arena pillar which splits in two. The spear is decent looking; nothing exciting or exceptional. It has a metal end so Obi-Wan can "hold" it with both hands. The lightsaber is the same one that we've been getting with every other Saga Obi-Wan. The handcuffs are decent and was included for accuracy I'm guessing, since he still had them on when he was battling the Acklay. But weren't BOTH his hands still handcuffed in this scene? Too bad that's impossible with this figure. The pillar is the same one that came with the first Padme figure and it breaks in half. Paint--3/5 No big problems in this area. There is something about his eyes that don't quite look right though. I think they just painted them too small or something. Overall--2/5 This is one of the worst Star Wars figures ever! It's only good for spear-poking situations and Acklay-battle dioramas. This figure is simply not fun to play with. Buy it if you need an extra arena pillar or a replacement Obi-Wan lightsaber. --Photos and review by Garett Yoshimura garett@carrotnetwork.com Big thanks to TechOfficerTodd at AllTroops.com and TOY FELLAS for sending me this figure! |
