| Basic Figures 2002
| Saga
The third Fan's Choice figure is here and it's well worth the wait! Ephant Mon is probably the biggest basic figure in the history of Star Wars figures. Props to Hasbro, who could have made this into a deluxe figure to make a few extra bucks. Read on for the review and 7 photos!
Ephant Mon
Jabba's Head of Security
"Formerly a gunrunner, Ephant Mon is a cunning and ruthless adversary. A Chevin from Vinsoth, he was saved by Jabba the Hutt and pledged his loyalty to the crime lord, eventually becoming Jabba's head of security. Heeding a warning from Luke Skywalker, he was one of the few to survive the destruction of Jabba's sailbarge at the Pit of Carkoon." --Excerpt from the package back
Ephant Mon is Fan's Choice Figure #3.
| Sculpt--5/5 When you first see this figure in its packaging, you'll wonder how they fit it in. This has got to be the largest basic Star Wars figure ever made! He's a good two heads higher than most Star Wars figures, and he's quite bulky. Not only is his size impressive, but so is his sculpt. This guy is simply packed with details. Ephant Mon's skin is appropriately wrinkly and gnarly, and his robe has nice folds and great texturing. If there's one fault with the sculpt it's with the posing. Ephant Mon's left leg is posed a bit toward the back, making him a little unstable. Fortunately, you can use his cane to make him totally stable. Articulation--5/5 Ephant Mon has ten points of articulation: neck, mouth, shoulders, wrists, waist, hips, and tail. I really wasn't expecting his neck or waist to be articulated, but they are. His tail has horizontal movement so you can move it side to side. Ephant Mon's mouth can open and close, which was just a great idea. There's really nothing more you need for this figure articulation-wise. Features--3/5 Being that this is a Collection 2 figure, there isn't a lot in the way of features. Ephant Mon does feature a "secret" holder for his vibroblade, although it's not really secret and it's not really a holder. There is a small hole in Ephant Mon's left leg where a peg on his vibroblade fits in. Nothing special, but at least you have a place to store his weapon. Accessories--5/5 You get Ephant Mon's cane and vibroblade. The cane looks fantastic, with great little design on the knob and little trinkets wrapped around it. The vibroblade looks like a vibroaxe, just a lot shorter. Both items fit in Ephant Mon's hands quite easily. The two items can also be combined to form a longer, easier to grip weapon. There is a hole in the bottom of the cane where you can slide the handle of the vibroblade in. Paint--4/5 The paint job is good for the most part, but doesn't quite match up to the caliber of the rest of the figure. The strands of hair on Ephant Mon's head are just terribly painted; most of the paint isn't even on the right spot and bleeds onto the surrounding area. Everything else looks rather good however, so it's disappointing that this one area is so off. UPDATE: I've since seen other Ephant Mons and the paint job on their hair wasn't as bad as mine. Overall--5/5 This is a must have figure especially if you love all the aliens in the Star Wars universe. Ephant Mon is one of those unique background characters I never thought I'd see in figure form--but here he is, and he's outstanding. |
