POTJ K-3PO (Echo Base Protocol Droid) Review

Droids are always a welcome addition, but this wasn't what I was expecting. Read on for the review and 4 photos.

K-3PO

Echo Base Protocol Droid

"A very old and experienced protocol droid, K-3PO had the vital task of leading the droid pool at Echo Base on the ice planet Hoth. K-3PO helped to coordinate the evacuation of the Rebel outpost when it was attacked by the evil Empire." --excerpt from the Force File

Droids are always a welcome addition, but this wasn't what I was expecting.

Sculpt--1/5
First of all, this is just TC-14 molded in white plastic. Not cool. Second, I never liked the TC-14 mold to begin with. Well I guess the body is fine, but I don't like the head on these guys. The eyes are too small and too close together. The black hole in the eyes are too large. The mouth is too large. The "nose" is too high. The jaw area is too angular. You can probably tell that I really don't like this headsculpt by now. Ever since the Flashback C-3PO, the 3PO units never looked right to me. The best 3PO molds in my mind are the Pull-Apart C-3PO and the Purchase of the Droids C-3PO. Ugh. K-3PO really disappointed me in this area.

Articulation--1/5
Incredibly less than standard. K-3PO has five points of articulation: neck, shoulders, and hips. Sure, protocol droids don't have a wide range of movement to begin with, but waist articulation would have been nice.

Accessories--3/5
The best part about this figure. You get one "Stentronic Sensor Pack". I like this because we've never gotten it before and it's a good looking prop/accessory for dioramas or displays. This and the macrobinoculars that come with the Sandtrooper have me hoping Hasbro will make a new Han or Luke in Hoth gear.

Paint--2/5
Another disappointment. While the "damage" on K-3PO's chest looks pretty close to the damage in the photo, I would have like it to be molded and painted. Although...it's hard to tell what kind of damage it is, so maybe it shouldn't be molded. The real disappointment for me is how plain this figure looks. I think they should have given him a paint app to bring out the detail in his coverings. A quick paint wipe or something would have done the trick.

Overall--2/5
I would only recommend this figure if you like droids and must own them all (like me). If you can live without droids, then you can more than live without K-3PO, he's one of the weakest figures in the Power of the Jedi line.
