POTJ Han Solo (Death Star Escape) Review

I'm not sure why Hasbro made this figure. I mean, I like the idea of a Han with stormtrooper belt on, but this figure ended up being a one-pose wonder. I like figures that are a bit more useful than this one. Read on for the review and 3 photos!

Han Solo

Death Star Escape

"Han Solo's reputation as a notorious smuggler and pirate also makes him a target for bounty hunters. After his ship is impounded by the Empire, Han helps Obi-Wan and Luke rescue Princess Leia from the Death Star. A courageous and daring pilot, Solo eventually realizes his personal stake in the Rebels' fight for freedom." --excerpt from the Force File

Did fans ask for this particular Han Solo? If they did, I sure wish they hadn't done so.

Sculpt--2/5
The sculpt is good...if you like the pose he's stuck in. But seriously, the detailing is nice and, well, detailed. He's got nice folds in his pants and shirt, making them look pretty realistic. His vest is molded dynamically with it open and showing more chest than usual.

The headsculpt is pretty awful in my opinion. It looks nothing like Harrison Ford; actually, it looks a lot like Jerry O'Connell. I think the biggest problem is that the eyebrows are all wrong; they look more like Micheal Keaton's eyebrows.

Articulation--1/5
Han has eight points: neck, shoulders, bicep-cuts, waist, and hips. When will Hasbro learn? These bicep-cuts are practically useless; he doesn't look right unless he's holding his rifle with both hands. On figures like this that hold weapons with both hands, one arm should have a bicep-cut and the other should have at least a wrist joint. That way, you're not left with a hand with its palm up. I guess you can always turn him into "Asking-for-Money Han Solo".

Accessories--1/5
All you get is an Imperial Issue blaster rifle. What really would have been cool is if you could remove the stormtrooper belt. It would be even cooler if they included his original belt with holster and blaster. I can dream can't I?

Paint--3/5
Good job on the paint. Granted, there's not a lot to paint, but the details that are there are done well. Eyes and hair are painted well, and little buttons on the stormtrooper belt are painted silver. Interestingly, the red lines on the side of Han's pants were molded and then painted.

Overall--1/5
Extremely limited posing, useless articulation, and a bad likeness. You know, I don't need this figure. That's the bottom line. I'm even wondering why I bought him in the first place. I would rather see a new Han in Stormtrooper disguise than this.
