POTJ Eeth Koth (Jedi Master) Review

Eeth Koth is a sampling of the types of figures we'll be seeing in the Episode II line of figures, not only because he is a Jedi, but also because of his pre-posed nature. This figure is less action and more of a statue. Is that good or bad? Read on for the review and 4 photos!

Eeth Koth

Jedi Master

"Eeth Koth is a Jedi Master and Council member known for his highly developed willpower and ability to withstand intense pain. He is an Iridonian Zabrak from Nar Shaddaa, a harsh 'smuggler's moon' that forced him to learn fortitude at an early age" --Excerpt from the card back

Sculpt--3.5/5
This is quite a landmark figure in the sense that it takes a huge leap into the realm of pre-posed figures. We've been seeing a few pre-posed figures in the Power of the Jedi line, but this one has taken it to a whole new level. Eeth Koth has an extremely dynamic pose, making him only suitable for heavily action-oriented poses. Eeth Koth is sculpted very well, though, and his flowing robe is somewhat impressive. His headsculpt is pretty good and shows a side of Eeth Koth that we may never see in the movies--he looks pissed!

Articulation--3/5
This is a tough one. Eeth Koth has seven points: neck, shoulders, elbow cuts on both arms, right wrist, and waist. Attentive readers will note that Eeth Koth has no hip articulation. Yes, his legs are forever stuck in this position, a pre-posing technique only seen before in the 25th Anniversary two-packs. The waist articulation doesn't do much to vary Eeth Koth's pose and it's the same story with the neck articulation. Both of these joints don't have much motion thanks to Eeth Koth's robe and hair, respectively. Eeth Koth's arms have the only joints worth the articulation. His right arm (his lightsaber wielding arm) can be put in many poses and his left arm is good for making him look like he's using the Force. The arms are probably the coolest part of this figure, but I can't figure out what pose Hasbro had in mind when they sculpted this guy.

Accessories--5/5
Eeth Koth comes with one accessory--his lightsaber. However, this is probably the best lightsaber Hasbro has made yet because it has...(drumroll please) a detachable blade! This is a very cool feature and I hope that all subsequent lightsabers have it. The excellence doesn't end there though as you can attach the hilt to Eeth Koth's belt! Such a cool lightsaber seems to have been wasted on a figure who pretty much needs to hold his lightsaber to look good. On a side note, the lightsaber blade sort of has a "flare" effect at the base of the blade. This is just a foreshadowing of what we'll see in Hasbro's Episode II figures.

Paint--3.5/5
No real complaints here, but I did see some sloppiness on some other Eeth Koth's, mainly on the sleeves.

Overall--3/5
Either you're going to love this figure or you're gonna hate it for all it's pre-posed glory. For me, it's more of a statue than an action figure, and more Expanded Universe than movie-based. If Eeth Koth makes an appearance in Episode II, this might make a good movie-based figure. Interestingly, this figure somewhat compliments Deluxe Darth Maul.
