POTJ Deluxe Luke Skywalker (in Echo Base Bacta Tank) Review

I finally found this guy at my local Toys R Us after looking for him for quite a while. This is a great set for those who like making displays or dioramas with their figures because of the great props that are in this set. Read on for the review and 6 photos!

Luke Skywalker

in Echo Base Bacta Tank

"Experience the thrill of The Empire Strikes Back once again, as a critically injured Luke Skywalker is immersed in a bacta tank to save his life." --Excerpt from the card back

Sculpt--3/5
There's not much to this figure; it's Luke in his underwear. The headsculpt is pretty good with Luke's hair molded as if swaying in the water. The likeness is not bad, but I can't say I'd recognize him if I didn't know it was a Luke figure. Surprisingly, Luke can stand up if you take him out of the tank and free him from the straps. Luke also has two holes in his back, one between the shoulder blades and one below the belt line. When I filled the bacta tank with water, Luke of course, filled up with water. I guess Hasbro did this so he doesn't float as much as he would if he didn't have the holes.

Articulation--3/5
Luke has five points of articulation: neck, shoulders, and hips. Luke has no waist articulation, but that's okay since it's not really needed.

Accessories--4/5
The Bacta Tank is the main accessory of this package and it's a pretty cool prop. The tank's "glass" is a light pink-ish color. The bottom is clear so you could feasibly light the tank from the bottom for a pretty cool effect. The top of the tank has two hoses connected to either side. The straps that hold Luke and the breathing mask are connected to the inside. The breathing mask's hose goes up through the top and sticks out of the top so you can blow into it to make bubbles when the tank is filled with water. The base of the tank is pretty simple and has an extension for the droid, FX-7. The included control panel does not fit in this spot even though it does in the prototype photo. This control panel is made of a softer plastic, so some of it's edges are a bit warped. The face of the control panel is nicely detailed but only painted in two colors, making it look simpler than it is.

An interesting thing I just noticed is that the top portion, or the "lid", of the tank has three tabs on the inside, presumably to lock the lid in place. However, this feature seems to have been disabled since there is no way for the tabs to retract. My theory is that the molded hatch on top of the tank used to be a button which, once depressed, allowed you to slide the lid onto the tank and then lock it in place. What do you think?

Paint--3/5
Not much to paint in this set; only Luke's face, his underwear, and the control panel. Luke's face is painted nicely, with cuts and wounds along the right side of his face.

Overall--4/5
This is a nice deluxe figure set, because it feels like you get your money's worth (assuming you bought it for 10-12 bucks). You get a nice functioning bacta tank, and an adequate wounded Luke. It's the perfect accessory for the FX-7 fig, or even if you still got a 2-1B Medical droid lying around.
