POTJ Deluxe Amanaman (with Salacious Crumb) Review

Amanaman is Fan's Choice figure #2, and because of his lanky arms, Hasbro has decided to release him as a deluxe figure and throw in some extra accessories such as Salacious Crumb. How does he stack up? Read on for the review and 7 photos!

Amanaman

With Salacious Crumb

"The bounty hunter Amanaman lurked in Jabba the Hutt's den of crime in the Return of the Jedi. It scours the galaxy hunting down fugitives, and keeps their skulls to decorate its staff. The species is called Amanin but is nicknamed Head Hunters" --Excerpt from the card back

Sculpt--4/5
Hasbro's 2nd Fan's Choice Figure is much like their 1st Fan's Choice Figure in that it is a great representation of its movie counterpart. Amanaman is pretty much a shrunken down, three-dimensional version of the photo on the back of the packaging. Hasbro has not surprisingly done a magnificent job on the the detailing of Amanaman's skin, with lots of little folds and wrinkles. His lanky arms and hands look great and are accurate to the photo. Amanaman's face is also done very well. The only drawback to the figure is that because of his long arms, he can be quite difficult to stand on his own. Fortunately, his staff helps keep him upright.

Articulation--3/5
Amanaman has six points: ball-jointed shoulders, wrists, and hips. Not bad, yet not anything special. The hip articulation is pretty worthless, so the shoulders and the wrists are the only thing worth moving on this figure. You can get a pretty wide range of poses with Amanaman's arms, but since he is difficult to stand without using at least one of his arms to prop himself up, this range of motion is wasted.

Accessories--3.5/5
Amanaman comes with a partial humanoid skeleton, his staff, and Salacious Crumb. This Salacious Crumb is pretty much the same one that came with the Fan Club exclusive Oola, except for a few things. First of all, this S.C. seems to be made of a more rubber-like plastic. Secondly, it is fully painted, skin-tone and all, unlike the first one which was molded in his skin color. Third, I think they may have changed his tail, but I'm not sure of this since I sold my Oola and Salacious Crumb figures a while ago. This S. Crumb seems to have inherited the original's inability to stand very well, because of its soft plastic and thin feet and legs.

Amanaman's staff is done very well with great detail in the three skulls tied to it. Two of the skulls appear to be human while third has a much larger cranium--perhaps it is from a Duros or some other large-headed species. The staff fits in Amanaman's right hand albeit quite loosely. When posing Amanaman as he is in the photo, it is necessary to use his staff to help him stand. What makes this difficult is the fact that his staff is made of soft plastic and is top-heavy, making it prone to sliding around on whatever surface you put it on.

The partial skeleton is also made of soft plastic and can be placed in Amanaman's left hand. I imagine you could also use it as either Uncle Owen's or Aunt Beru's skeletal remains if you so desire.

Paint--4/5
Overall, I like the painting on Amanaman. I like the way they've brought out all the detail in his skin with a nice light paint app. However, I think the green paint they've used could have been a bit lighter and blended a bit better in certain areas. The paint on the staff is excellent, with the skulls nicely painted. The skeleton is not bad either, but it has some orange accents on it that look a bit strange.

Overall--3.5/5
This should be a welcome addition to anyone's Star Wars collection because of Amanaman's uniqueness. Hasbro has done a great job with him (it?) and will look great with all the other Jabba's Palace aliens released thus far. My only gripe is that the only non-online store I've found him at is Target, which is charging the ridiculous price of $15.99! I don't think he's worth that price, but I bit the bullet and bought him anyway.
