POTJ Darth Vader (Dagobah) Review

It's here! The figure you've all been waiting for--ghostly Vader from Dagobah! Ok, this isn't really a figure I've been waiting for, but I'm sure there are people out there who will love this. The cool thing about this Vader is the removable mask which reveals--Luke's face! Read on for the review and 5 photos!

Darth Vader

Dagobah

"Taking the form of Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith, this spirit is the embodiment of the dark side of the Force. It dwells in a cave on the swamp-covered planet of Dagobah. Although defeated by Luke Skywalker in combat, its unmasked face revealed that Luke has yet to master the ways of the Force and become a Jedi." --excerpt from the Force File

Sculpt--3/5
This Vader sculpt is a mixed bag. When I first got it, I was stoked because it looked like a pretty cool Vader, but the more I looked at it, the more mundane it looked. The details on this Vader are very simple. His pants for example, have the requisite vertical lines, but you don't get a sense that these are pants being worn by a person. There are no crinkles in the fabric or big folds to give that impression. His cape and skirt are also very simple and rigid looking. The helmet looks....fat. I don't know how else to describe it. The face area is a bit wider than it should be because of the Luke face underneath the mask. The Luke face is a pretty good likeness though. Oh, and Vader is molded in a transparent black plastic even though I don't recall him being transparent in the movie. Still, it's a pretty cool look.

Articulation--3/5
Vader has ten points of articulation: neck, shoulders, bicep-cuts on both arms, wrists, waist, and hips. His articulation is primarily for him to hold his lightsaber with both hands and works pretty well. He can only hold his lightsaber in a specific way so don't expect to be creating a ton of different poses. I think it would have been cool if this Vader had knee articulation since he falls to his knees after being struck by Luke. Good articulation, but it's only there to facilitate a certain pose.

Accessories--3/5
Dagobah Vader comes with his lightsaber, and I suppose you could count his removable cape and removable head. Yes, his head is removable. I didn't know that when I bought him and was a bit surprised when his head fell off upon opening the package. The cape is pretty lame in my opinion. It's not the best looking cape and it fits very loose around the neck and shoulders. The end result is that it doesn't feel like the cape was made for this figure. the lightsaber is well done; it's hard to mess it up. Is this the first Vader with a fully painted handle? Hmmm I guess Commtech Vader had one, but that was molded to his hip. Either way, very nice lightsaber...unfortunately the hand grips are pretty tight and scraped off the paint immediately.

Paint--3/5
My Vader got a pretty bad paint job. The silver belt buckle is messy and overflows. The helmet has a splotch of flesh-colored paint near the chin area. That one's probably not too common, but still, it bugs me.

Overall--3/5
This is a pretty average figure. Since it's transparent, you can't really use him as a multi-purpose Vader. I like the fact that his head is removable and the mask comes off, but in the end, I feel that I didn't really need this Vader.
