| Power of the Jedi
I love figures of cantina patrons, simply because I love the cantina scenes in Episode IV. For anyone of the same ilk, you will no doubt want to get your hands on BoShek, the pilot seen chatting with Obi-Wan at the bar. Read on for the review and 5 photos!
BoShek
"BoShek is a smuggler and starship technician who flew illegal ships for Tatooine monks. He helped Obi-Wan Kenobi by pointing out Chewbacca in the Mos Eisley cantina, when the Jedi was looking for transportation to Alderaan for himself, Luke Skywalker and the droids." --Excerpt from the card back
| Sculpt--4.5/5 Hasbro is really ending the Power of the Jedi line with a bang! BoShek is, of course, another stunning sculpt, with a great headsculpt and finely detailed outfit. BoShek's head is pretty accurate to his photo, complete with furrowed forehead and mutton chop sideburns. BoShek's outfit is a highly detailed flightsuit with lots of straps, cylinders and buckles. In POTJ tradition, BoShek has a functional holster on his left leg which is always a nice addition. BoShek's left hand is molded to hold his blaster, but could also be used as conversation gesturing. BoShek's right hand was sculpted palm-up to facilitate the holding of his helmet. This is fine and dandy, but looks strange when he is not holding his helmet. It's not too bad since he looks best when holding his helmet. The thing I have issue with most is BoShek's legs. My figure has feet that don't make good contact with the ground, making it hard for BoShek to stand without the use of a stand. Articulation--4/5 BoShek has seven points of articulation: neck, shoulders, right bicep cut, waist, and hips. The bicep cut is great for adjusting BoShek's grip on his helmet, but I think wrist articulation on his right arm would have made this figure's articulation perfect. His other joints are standard fare, which is fine because he doesn't really need much else besides what has already been mentioned. Accessories--5/5 BoShek comes with his flight helmet and a blaster pistol. The flight helmet is awesome and fits over his head perfectly. I love the way it flawlessly "connects" to his flight suit at the neck. BoShek's pistol is also a great offering. If my memory serves me correctly, this is the same blaster-type used by Dr. Evazan (or was it Ponda Baba?). Anyway, it is nicely sculpted and accurately scaled. It is a bit rubbery, but that doesn't bother me. I guess the inclusion of a drinking glass would have been nice, but I'm just happy he's got his helmet. Paint--2.5/5 The only area where this figure falters is the paint. A lot of the white painted areas aren't painted with the best care. They seem to have been painted rather quickly as most of the straps have bleeding edges or even have splatter around them. The painters also forgot to paint two straps on BoShek's butt; I'm hoping this is an isolated incident. I haven't seen painting this bad on a POTJ figure since...well, I don't think it has ever been this bad. Most unfortunate. Overall--4/5 Despite the bad paint job, this is a great figure and a must-buy if you're making a Mos Eisley Cantina diorama, or just like background characters. This last wave has given us a great droid (R4-M9), an Ewok to add to our Ewok tribe (Teebo), and a great Cantina denizen. This has been my favorite wave so far, so it is unfortunate that their paint jobs were less than stellar. |
