C-3PO

with Droid Factory Assembly Line!

"Departing Tatooine on his first adventure, C-3PO joins Anakin, Padme, and his new counterpart R-2D2 on a rescue mission to save Obi-Wan Kenobi. The worrisome droid gets into trouble while helping them investigate a mysterious droid assembly plant." --Excerpt from the package back

Sculpt--4/5
Many people disliked the first Episode II C-3PO figure because its bulky, removeable armor just didn't look aesthetically pleasing. Sculpt-wise, Deluxe C-3PO is the figure most of us wanted, with no removeable panels to ruin the look of the droid we've all come to know. There's really nothing wrong with this sculpt at all; the correct details are there and the pose fits the character.

The sculpting on the included battle droid is pretty much the same as every other battle droid figure, so don't expect anything new. The assembly line brings the whole set together and is adequately sculpted. There isn't a ton of detail on the assembly line but it is definitely good enough. The foot pegs on the conveyer belt are good for keeping the figures in place while you exchange parts.

Articulation--3/5
Both C-3PO and the Battle Droid feature a very basic five points of articulation: neck, shoulders, and hips. I don't mind though, as they are two really decent figures and the play value of the interchangeable body parts more than makes up for any shortcomings.

Features--5/5
This has become my favorite Deluxe figure so far. Why? Because the action feature is from the film and doesn't ruin the figures in the process. You can basically interchange any body part from one figure to the other--even the Battle Droid's backpack! You can make some pretty wierd-looking droids with all the combinations of body parts. If you're just switching heads you can use the magnetic arm that is attached to the assembly line. Using the arm feels a bit overcomplicated, but it works well and does a good job at recreating the scene from the movie. This is just a great play feature and it didn't ruin the figures! Now this is a deluxe figure set in my book.

Accessories--4.5/5
In sets like these, it's always a bit hard to figure out what's the accessory to what, but since C-3PO is the main figure, I'll count the assembly line and Battle Droid as the accessory. As accessories, they rock. The assembly line does double-duty not only because of its play-mechanics, but also because it serves as a nice little display base. An added bonus feature is that it can connect to the assembly line section of the Geonosis Arena playset. Kudos to Hasbro for the foresight. The only thing I don't like about the assembly line is the soft, soft plastic used for the magnetic arm. If you don't regularly rotate the arm or prop it up, it will begin to sag and look droopy. I usually don't mind when they use soft plastic for guns and small weapons, but for something like this it's just a poor choice.

The Battle Droid is standard fare, but thankfully he's the red-colored type and can help fill out your Separatist army. Included is the standard droid rifle complete with attachable blast effect.

Paint--3/5
The paint job is average. I'm slightly disappointed in C-3PO's paint job since he looks a little too plastic. A nice paint wash or something could've helped a lot.

Overall--4/5
This is my favorite deluxe Saga figure so far. It's got great play-value, can connect to the Geonosis Arena playset, comes with a red Battle Droid and is the best Episode II C-3PO figure yet.
