Boba Fett (2003 Convention Figure) Review

This Boba Fett was first available at a Star Wars convention in Mexico, and then appeared at other conventions in the United States. Those who couldn't attend these conventions had the chance to purchase them from the Official Star Wars Fan Club provided you are a member. Paizo (the company in charge of the Fan Club) had done a wonderful job of distributing this figure, limiting it to only two per person. They were $10.00 each. Read on for the review and 7 photos!

Boba Fett

2003 Convention Figure

"More than 25 years after we first saw the Star Destroyer enter the screen at the beginning of A New Hope, Star Wars continues to both inspire and fascinate. Much more than just a series of films, Star Wars is a total experience. Essential components of that experience are the toys that we grew (and continue to grow) up with and the sense of community that brings us together to discuss, debate, and share all things Star Wars.

"It is with respect to the heritage of that experience that Hasbro offers this limited edition figure. It was created especially for a limited series of 2003 conventions to celebrate the dedication and enthusiasm of the fan community." --Excerpt from the package back

Sculpt--5/5
Silver Boba Fett is basically the 300th Boba Fett figure in silver. Hey, if you're gonna make a silver Boba Fett, you might as well use the best Boba Fett figure out there! This figure still looks incredible and all the details are still sharp and well defined. He even retains his cloth cape, but it's in a silver/gray tone to match the figure! Very cool. Definitely no complaints on the sculpting of this figure.

Articulation--3.5/5
Boba Fett still has eight articulation points: neck, shoulders, right bicep-cut, left wrist-cut, waist, and hips. Not a bad set of points, but this is one area where the figure is starting to show its age. If he had wrist and bicep joints on both arms, it would help a lot with his posing. Also, the fact that his gun is glued to his left hand means a few less posing possibilities.

Features--NA/5
There are no features associated with this set.

Accessories--NA/5
At first I thought all the accessories were separate pieces, but thanks to a reader who has opened his Boba Fett, I now know that all the loose bits are glued in place. So there are actually no accessories unless you pry them from place.

Paint--3/5
This is the first Silver figure that isn't vac-metalized. Nope, this time Boba Fett is simply painted in shiny silver paint. It probably would have cost Hasbro a lot more than usual to vac-metalized this figure since there are so many parts to him. Thus, we get a silver figure that isn't as shiny as its predecessors, but still unique-looking nonetheless.

Packaging--4/5
The packaging is in the same style as the silver R2-D2 and Darth Vader figures but features some slight changes. This figure wasn't created for the 25th Anniversary of Star Wars, and the packaging reflects this by not mentioning it like on the previous figures. There are also many Boba-Fett themed logos all over the packaging; the skull that appears on his left shoulder is printed behind the figure. The emblem that is on his right breast plate makes up part of the title sticker on the bubble. On the back of the card, a large photo of Boba Fett greets you as the skull and emblem are shown again behind him. Everything is printed in silver and black except for two small icons on the back of the card. There is a small silver sticker next to the barcode covering something up...what it covers, I do not know. The bubble that holds the figure is similar to that on the other silver figures except there is a little blister on it to accommodate Boba's rifle. I cannot say how durable the packaging is since mine came in very nice condition, but I have heard of many people receiving badly damaged packaging.

Overall--3.5/5
If you've picked up silver R2-D2 and Darth Vader, then you'll probably want to pick this one up as well. It's a nice, unique figure that will stand out from the rest of your figures and looks great on display. It's kind of a bummer that he isn't vac-metalized, but he still looks impressive.
