Anakin Skywalker

Tatooine Attack

"Thrust into the midst of galactic turmoil when he is assigned to protect Senator Padme Amidala, Anakin returns home to Tatooine in an unsanctioned mission." --Excerpt from the package back

Sculpt--4.5/5
This is positively the best-looking Anakin figure Hasbro has churned out, easily eclipsing all other versions they have done so far. For once, Anakin's headsculpt doesn't totally suck and actually somewhat resembles Hayden. His hair even looks better than all the other versions so it looks like Hasbro is getting the hang of sculpting Anakin pretty well. Anakin's outfit is also sculpted very well and it's never looked better! The bottom part of his surcoat (the vest-like thing) is dynamically sculpted to suggest motion. His inner robes have great texture and nice detailed wrinkles. He is a bit preposed, but his arm articulation somewhat makes up for that. His legs however, are a nightmare...

Articulation--3.5/5
Anakin has eleven points of articulation: neck, shoulders, elbows-cuts, wrists, thigh-cuts, and the bend and swivel right knee (which I am counting as two points). The legs, the legs...at first I was like, "cool! a bend and swivel knee!", but then I tried to move his hips only to find that they don't really move except for the action feature. The thigh-cuts are a decent way to compensate for the loss of hip articulation, but it also makes it harder to get Anakin to stand up. You have to make very small adjustments or else he'll fall over easily.

The arm articulation is great though, and allows for many lightsaber poses. You can have Anakin hold his saber with both hands, or you can imagine him using his Force powers with his right hand. His shoulder articulation is a bit limited because of the way his sculpted surcoat hangs slightly over his shoulders. It's not that bad though so I don't mind.

Features--1/5
The worst part about the figure is the uber-lame "Jedi Power Kick". There really isn't much kick to it--press the button on Anakin's back and his right leg "kicks" to the side, hardly even moving! Seriously, his leg moves maybe about a centimeter, if that! At first I thought my figure was broken because I didn't percieve that the leg had actually moved. It's just terrible that they ruined the hip articulation and disabled the waist articulation for such a poorly-done feature. Bad, Hasbro, Bad!

Anakin also features a Force attract right hand which is pretty much what you've come to expect. The magnet is pretty strong on mine so that's cool.

Accessories--4/5
Anakin comes with his lightsaber and this time, it's got a metal hilt! Okay, so it's the same one that comes with Bespin Luke but it's still a cool saber. What I really like is the Tusken Raider weapon rack. It's made to fall apart so you can kick it over with Anakin's kick feature, so it's a bit hard to keep the rack standing on it's own for long periods of time. The two pieces literally lean against each other and do not snap together in any way. They are like two cards in a house of cards and will fall over just as easily. There is a pouch that hangs off the rack and you also get a rifle and a gaffi stick--the preffered weapons of those pesky sandpeople.

Paint--4.5/5
This is a good, clean job on the paint. Anakin's face looks great. No huge, black eyebrows here, baby! The outfit also sports a clean paint job with good sharp lines and no splotchyness. Impressive! Perhaps Hasbro's painting department has turned a new leaf? The rifle and gaffi stick aren't painted, but the rack and pouch is, and they look good. Excellent job all around.

Overall--4/5
Definitely the best version of Anakin to date (sep. 19th, 2002). This Anakin can replace Final Duel Anakin and looks great holding two lightsabers. I've also tried putting Pilot Obi-Wan's cloak on him, but that thing is just too bulky (plus Anakin's cloak has no sleeves). So despite the extremely lame Jedi kick, this is the Anakin figure to have at the moment--it destroys all other Anakins by its sculpt alone.
