Sideshow Order of the Jedi Luke Skywalker 12-Inch Figure Review

Sideshow 12" Luke SkywalkerI've actually had this review completed for a few months now, but was reluctant to post it because it just didn't sit right with me. I wanted to make sure that my own excitement over a non-Hasbro 12" line of Star Wars figures wasn't coloring my opinion. Conversely, I didn't want to bash the figure just because it fell a little short of my expectations.

To give a little background, my expectations were built upon my experience collecting 1/6th military figures from Dragon, BBi, and DiD. Fifty bucks should get you a pretty good military figure with an excellently tailored uniform, great headsculpt, moving parts on the weapons, functional ammo pouches and equipment, and a great posable body. Some companies even have metal weapons and accessories, not to mention leather footwear. So coming from this point of view, I was expecting a lot from my fifty-dollar-Luke. However, if you've just collected Hasbro's 12" Star Wars figures, these figures will be a definite step-up.

The Saga Collection #036 Luke Skywalker (Escape From Mos Eisley) Review

#036 Luke SkywalkerWhile I don't recall ever seeing Luke wear both his poncho and floppy hat at the same time, including both accessories is much appreciated. And accessorize is exactly what this figure does best with it's nice pack out of items both new and old. The figure itself is old, but has a new headsculpt to make it feel new. What's the verdict? Read on for the review and 25 photos!

#042 C-3POCollectors have been dreaming of a C-3PO with bendable knees for a long, long time and Hasbro has finally delivered the goods with this figure! The great thing is that Hasbro didn't stop at just bendable knees but have gone the extra mile in making this the most articulated C-3PO made yet. And let's not forget about that Ewok throne! Lots of good stuff in this set so read on for the review and 28 photos!

The Saga Collection Shadow Stormtrooper (StarWarsShop.com Exclusive) Review

Shadow StormtrooperFans of the Crimson Empire comic mini-series have a lot to celebrate with the upcoming Kir Kanos and Carnor Jax 2-pack and this figure here, the Shadow Stormtrooper. This figure represents Carnor Jax's personal guards, who are sort of like what the royal guards were to the Emperor, just less skilled. Personally chosen by Jax, these black armor-clad stormtroopers will do his bidding till death. Don't know who Carnor Jax or Kir Kanos is? Then I recommend reading Crimson Empire; it's a good read! Anyway, read on for the review and 23 photos!

The Saga Collection #038 Darth Vader (Bespin Confession) Review

#038 Darth VaderI usually don't like buying figures I already own, unless they include new items or something somehow unique. The Saga Collection #026 Clone Trooper (Utapau) Review

#026 Clone Trooper (Utapau)I love clone trooper action figures...especially when they actually appear in the movie! ROTS #41 Clone Trooper (Super Articulation!) Review

ROTS #41 Clone TrooperThe Super-articulated clone trooper from the Clone Wars line was one of those figures that propelled the Star Wars action figure line to new standards. Hasbro showed us that they could do super-articulated figures and the end result was everything we all dreamed of. Now, Hasbro revisits the super-articulated clone trooper in the ROTS line, with minor changes and additions. ROTS Sneak Preview Figure R4-G9 (#4 of 4) Review

ROTS R4-G9It's sort of a tradition that sneak preview figures are released a few months before the next Star Wars movie, so it's a bit sad that this is probably the last sneak preview wave of figures we'll ever get for obvious reasons. This wave of sneak preview toys continues the formula created for the Attack of the Clones wave, consisting of four figures and a vehicle. And similar to the AOTC wave, we're getting another astromech droid, this time in the form of R4-G9. If R4-G9 looks familiar to you then it's probably because of its notoriety as the droid where Star Wars fans got to vote on what kind of paint scheme it would have in the movie. With a focus on sculpting and articulation, the Vintage Original Trilogy Collection is perhaps the line Star Wars action figure fans have been dreaming of. Saga 2004 #12 General Jan Dodonna (Battle of Yavin) Review

Every once in a while, Hasbro conducts a poll on which figure they should make next. They give fans a few choices, usually of more obscure characters, and the winner eventually gets made into an action-figure. General Jan Dodonna was on the list a few times (if I recall correctly) and while he never won, Hasbro apparently got the idea that there were a good deal of people who would like to see this figure. So Dodonna along with Captain Antilles (who also didn't win the poll) have finally been made into action-figures. Read on for the review and 12 photos!

Clone Wars #43 ARC Trooper (Army of the Republic) Review

If Dr. Frankenstein made his own Clone Trooper, this is what it would look like. An obvious mix-match of various "trooper" parts, the ARC trooper is either your dream trooper or a nightmare of character design. The Arc trooper apparently wears upgraded/reinforced clone trooper armor along with additions that are reminiscent of the various stormtroopers from the original trilogy. These additions include a shoulder pauldron that is almost exactly like those worn by Sandtroopers, right forearm and hand armor like those of a standard Stormtrooper, and a waistcoat like those worn by Snowtroopers. The ARC trooper also sports a left arm gauntlet and helmet rangefinder that is very Fett-inspired. Read on for the review and 12 photos!

Saga 2003 #05 Sp-4 & JN-66 (Research Droids) Review

If you have the Attack of the Clones DVD or have seen the deleted scenes from the movie, then you've most likely seen these two. I'm surprised Hasbro decided to release these figures, knowing that the scene they were in was deleted from the movie proper. From my own perspective, it seems it was a wise choice; I've only seen these figures twice at my local toy stores and they don't hang around for long. But whether that's because fans have been starved for new product or because they really like these robots is unknown to me. Read on for the review and 14 photos!

UPDATE: Thanks to a reader known only as "AMD", I have learned that at least one of the droids appears in the actual movie! Three droids that look very similar to SP-4 can be spotted in the Coruscant docking bay scene where Anakin and Padme leave for Naboo. Click HERE to see a screen cap and look for them at the left side of the image.

Saga Multipack: The Battle of Hoth Review

I've had this set for a while now, but was reluctant to open it since it has the "incorrect" tauntaun with a broken tusk. I was hoping I'd be able to find the correct, non-broken-tusk tauntaun at my local Toys R Us' but all of them had the incorrect versions. I now have a feeling I will never see the correct version at retail so I figured I might as well open the one I have. Read on for the review and 36 photos!

We haven't had a Return of the Jedi Emperor figure since the Flashback Emperor Palpatine released in 1998. Saga Screen Scene: Jedi High Council Set 2 (Featuring Yarael Poof, Depa Billaba & Yaddle) Review

The second set of the Jedi High Council screen scenes features Yarael Poof, Depa Billaba and the much-anticipated Yaddle figure. I had quite a difficult time finding this set, perhaps because of these characters or perhaps because people just like the High Council sets more than the Geonosian War Chamber sets. In any case, every Target I went to had around 4 of the Geonosian War Chamber sets and the last Target I went to had the one and only High Council set which I of course bought. What does it all mean? I don't quite know, so let's just get on with the review!

Saga 2003 #19 Snowtrooper (The Battle of Hoth) Review

The announcement of a new Snowtrooper had a lot of fans excited, and Commtech Stormtrooper-styled articulation and a much more detailed sculpt was what many were hoping for. But what most fans didn't expect was that Hasbro chose not to do any ordinary old Snowtrooper, but a Snowtrooper Commander. Here's a quick run-down of the differences between a normal Snowtrooper and a Snowtrooper Commander: The Commander has a rank badge on his chest plate, a holstered sidearm (apparently a blaster pistol), has upside-down shoulder armor, wears what appears to be Stormtrooper forearm armor with cuffed gloves over it, wears a different style of boots, does not wear a backpack, does not have the two large pouches at his waist and wears a slightly different helmet (there are two small silver disks on each side of the helmet). To see actual photos of the Snowtrooper Commander and compare them to the regular Snowtrooper, check out The Snowtrooper Resource Center. So now that you have a better idea of where Hasbro started with this figure, read on for the review and 13 photos!

Saga 2003 #07 Anakin Skywalker (Secret Ceremony) Review

As we all know, Hasbro has sub-titles for most of their basic figures (such as "Geonosian Rescue" or in this case, "Secret Ceremony") and for the most part, they do a good job of labeling them correctly. However, this figure is perhaps the worst sub-title that I have seen. "Secret Ceremony" obviously refers to the secret wedding of Anakin and Padme, but the figure itself is so inappropriate for recreating such a scene that using the sub-title was a big mistake in my opinion. This figure is made for action scenes, not for wedding ceremonies. It seems the only reason they used "Secret Ceremony" is because Anakin is sporting his robotic right arm. Saga Deluxe Anakin Skywalker (with Lightsaber Slashing Action!) Review

Yet another instance of a figure based on a scene that never made it to the final cut. From what I've read, the droid factory scene was a last minute addition which cut down on the arena battle scene. This also explains why this Anakin and Hangar Duel Anakin have his proper blue lightsaber, even though he would have lost it by the time these scenes came about. Of course, it may just be that Hasbro wanted the figures to come with Anakin's hilt so kids won't be complaining about him having two generic lightsabers. Read on for the review and 11 photos!

Saga 2002 #34 Massiff Review

The Massiffs were originally slated to appear on both Tatooine and Geonosis, but by the time the movie came out, the scenes where they would have appeared on Geonosis were cut. This figure was obviously designed before these changes were made--a testament to how far in advance figure development begins in relation to the movie's opening. R2-D2 is one of those characters that are perfect for action features...if only he weren't so small. Despite the figure's small size, Hasbro has managed to put in a bunch of electronics. Sure, this isn't the first time they've done it, but it is the first time they're offering one as a basic figure. Read on for the review and 6 photos!

POTJ Zutton (Snaggletooth) Review

I believe Zutton actually appeared in the Star Wars Holiday Special, a show that aired on TV in 1978 with the cast of Star Wars in a "variety show" format.
