Sideshow 12" Bespin Han Solo Preview

Sideshow 12" Bespin Han SoloI finally received my Sideshow 12" Bespin Han Solo figure yesterday (regular version), so I thought I'd share some quick photos and some initial impressions.

I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this figure. In fact, I wasn't even going to buy this figure, but since it is a major character from the Original Trilogy, I decided I should get it for better or for worse...

My initial thoughts before getting the figure were:

  • The head is too big/out of proportion with the body.
  • The likeness is off; face looks pudgy and fat.
  • Jacket is too short and ill-tailored.

Now that I have the figure, my thoughts are now:

  • The head is slightly too big, but not as bad as I thought.
  • The likeness is off but it looks better in person; you can really see Harrison Ford in the sculpt.
  • The Jacket is worse than I thought and in my opinion, is the main reason why this figure looks so out of proportion. It is exceptionally ill-tailored at the shoulders--the jacket is simply too tight in this area and it pulls up the front of the jacket as well as causing it to bunch up in the back below the shoulderblades. The length of the jacket body is too short, making the sleeves and arms look long even though they're the correct length. Simply put, the jacket is a tragedy and in my opinion, ruins the figure's looks.
  • Another thing that makes this figure look out of proportion is the fact that the pants are hiked up too far. Once you get the figure, pull down his pants as far as they will go (without removing them of course) to give his body a more proportioned look.
  • The accessories are nice, though I think Sideshow should think about improving their belt buckles. Currently, they seem to like the peg and hole method of securing belts. Trouble is, Han's belt buckle is made of a soft plastic, and I fear the peg may stretch and break loose one day. Maybe Sideshow can look into a metal belt buckle hook system like Dragon's newer German WWII belts. Not only are these adjustable, but they also have a low profile to help keep things in scale.

Well, those are my initial thoughts for now. A full review may come later, but I can't say when. Oh yeah, here are eight quick photos I took. Enjoy!
